HR software was already a core area of expertise for us. Through our investments in HR WORKS and Ingentis, we had built deep knowledge of the HR technology ecosystem, its key market participants, and the structural trends shaping the industry. In the post-pandemic environment, one topic became increasingly important: employee engagement. Companies are finding it more costly to manage disengaged teams, declining retention, and rising employee turnover than to invest proactively in engagement, productivity, and organizational performance.
Against this backdrop, we took a closer look at the employee listening software market. Effectory clearly stood out: the market leader in the Netherlands, with exceptional customer loyalty, a growing SaaS business, and a unique competitive advantage built on deep HR expertise and a proprietary data set spanning more than two decades of employee feedback. What impressed us most, however, was the founders’ perspective. Arne Baarends and Guido Heezen didn’t start with technology—they started with a simple question: why do employees stay, and why do they leave? That understanding of employee engagement and organizational development is embedded throughout the platform and cannot easily be replicated.
The timing was equally compelling. Having established a strong position in its home market, Effectory was looking for the right partner to support its next phase of growth across the DACH region. Earlier expansion efforts had demonstrated that Germany required a local, hands-on approach. This is where Maguar could create real value. Through our network within the German HR ecosystem, our experience with SaaS transformations, and our operational playbook, we became the ideal partner for both management and the founders. The partnership was established in 2022, with the founders making a significant reinvestment and remaining closely involved in the company’s strategic development.
